Title Distance Learning Seminars on Economic Management – Seminar 1: Today’s Inflation:Global Context and Local Solutions

Overview Inflation is climbing to uncomfortable levels in virtually every East Asian country due to several factors, among which high fuel and food prices are the most immediate. At the same time, money and credit growth are difficult to contain, owing to substantial capital inflows. The inflationary experience is new and traumatizing for the current economic managers. Therefore, there is great interest in countries of the region to learn about how available inflation management tools can be deployed to address today’s inflation, and how other economic interventions can be used in a complementary fashion to deal with adverse sectoral effects on the welfare of specific groups, especially those with low incomes. Responding to this need for information, the Global Development Learning Network in Asia Pacific is pleased to launch a distance learning seminar series on economic management, with support from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
